Some of the long-term effects of diabetes include nerve damage which can result in loss of sensation in your feet. A decrease in circulation can make it harder to heal if you have a blister or scrape from ill-fitting shoes or pressure points on areas of arthritis. Learn how to take care of your feet to prevent chronic ulcers, deformity and avoid the dreaded amputation.

Andy was 36 years old – happily married with two small children and a great job. When a routine physical revealed he had type 1 diabetes, Andy decided to fight back. Already a college athlete and dedicated bodybuilder, he welcomed the challenge of the Iron Man Triathlon in 2006…and to date has completed the Triathlon 10 times! Learn how his positive attitude has made him a national spokesperson and has influenced the lives of so many other people.

St. John’s Hospice is a safe haven in center city Philadelphia for men experiencing homelessness. Each day, a hot meal is served to as many as 400 visitors. The hospice also offers case management, on-site nursing, showers, and a mailroom for hundreds of men. There is also a 12-bed residence for medically fragile men and a safe place to sleep from 10pm to 6am for an additional 27 men who need shelter. Barry and Deacon Willoughby are men who see God in the face of every person who looks for help. Lend your support.

Kelly enjoyed an exciting life as a young woman in NYC as a marketing executive for Estee Lauder. Moved by the homeless man she saw each day on her walk to work, she traded in her plans to promote the latest perfume for a Master’s degree in Social Work and found her passion in promoting the value of every human life. Her cup overflows with grace and gratitude.

On Sunday, October 10, 2021, our host Dr. Marianne Ritchie was joined by Dina Halegoua-DiMarzio, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Director of the Fatty Liver Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Heidi Syropoulos, MD, Medical Director of Government Markets for Independence Blue Cross, for a discussion about Fatty liver, a serious condition that is growing at an alarming rate.

​Your Real Champion: Someone Saved My Life Tonight

​Each week we highlight the #RealChampions in your life! Your family, friends, or colleagues who go the extra mile to help others in their community. For this week, Your Real Champion was Michelle Monzo, a Crisis Intervention Education Specialist at Montgomery County Emergency Service (MCES).

Michelle has spent 30 years training first responders how to safely intervene when a person is contemplating suicide and in other dangerous emergencies. She herself is a negotiator and has successfully convinced many troubled people out of a dangerous choice. For 20 years, she volunteered to lead a team of volunteer 1st responders who comfort their colleagues who have been traumatized by the sadness they see regularly.

On September 19, 2021, our host Dr. Marianne Ritchie was joined by Christine Marschilok, MD, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine & Sports Medicine, the Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, and the Assistant Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.

Phyllis and Daren were the loving parents of two-year-old Sally and two-month-old Simon. One day Phyllis put baby Simon in for a nap, but then experienced the unthinkable…he never woke up. Testing revealed the cause was the long QT syndrome, a condition that causes an abnormal heart rhythm and can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. Simon’s Heart is the foundation that keeps Simon’s memory alive and aims to prevent the loss of other children from a detectable and treatable condition.

On September 12, 2021, our host Dr. Marianne Ritchie was joined by Robert C. O’Reilly, MD, an attending physician in the Division of Otolaryngology and Director of the Balance and Vestibular Program at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. O’Reilly is also a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Nana’s Attic, a thrift store tucked inside a busy shopping center, is a cozy shop filled with treasures for savvy buyers, that’s also a resource with household goods, toys, and clothing for victims of domestic violence. Janice and Anthony along with dedicated staff offer the kindness and support that the name implies.

Nana’s Attic opened in 2002 as a source of earned income for the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) and a resource for their clients. Every volunteer hour, sale, consignment, and donation supports DAP’s free services to victims of abuse.
