When one starts confronting their sexual relationship, it’s common to start deconstructing and evolving their beliefs around a lot of other things too. Because spirituality and sexuality are deeply connected, when we deal with the challenges in our sexual relationships, the theology we were brought up in is usually poked at and oftentimes unravels as well. This is very normal and I’m happy to share this conversation I had with David Hayward (also known as the Naked Pastor) where we navigate the unraveling many of us go through concerning religion and sexuality. His art has been so helpful for me as I reflect on different areas of my life.

Emotional Connection has always been the foundation to a good intimate life. So why do some of us lose this awareness and start the game of tennis where we go back and forth between sex first or emotional connection first?

The perspective that emotional connection should always come first isn’t always talked about, but I want to advocate for this perspective because it’s what women are saying they need in order to enjoy a sex life they look forward to. It’s time we put an end to the idea that men need sexual connection before they can connect emotionally and start prioritizing emotional connection first always. Why? Because it’s what women are saying they need before they happily have sex with their husbands and we need to listen to them.

Does the way religion teach women about modesty cause more harm than good? We are going to discuss this idea with a guest named Buck. He is a Christian, a father and a husband and he noticed the harm that had been done on women and men with the emphasis that religion had placed on modesty so he and his wife decided to teach their children differently than the rhetoric that was being used inside their religion.

Lots of people think that in order to make their intimate lives better in their marriages that they need books on better positions and they need to just keep giving into sex until they like it better. Almost like sex can be approached the same we approach exercise. Luckily, this isn’t the case. Sex isn’t just about attraction and desire in marriage. Sex is a mixture of playing with power dynamics, avoiding rejection, and learning what true intimacy is. Women are too tired to have sex with their husbands because they are the kind of tired that husbands can’t possibly understand or imagine. It’s not just something women are saying to get out of sex. We need to stop ignoring the “I’m too tired” response and take it seriously. Women would like to feel turned on and sexy and they want to enjoy their sex lives with a good amazing husband so if we listen to women, better sex is around the corner. But even better, women will be feeling better.
