Hey all!

Nearly a month ago Spain and Portugal experienced a several-hour electricity blackout. Power went down at mid-day and wasn’t restored completely until early the next morning, though the majority of users had service returned in around six to seven hours.

We still don’t know exactly why the downtime occurred. A cyberattack has been ruled out. The most probable reason is a lack of a specific kind of infrastructure related to regulating excess energy produced by the successful renewable energy program here in Spain.

So, I talk about that blackout, how it touched Spanish people on a regular working day in April, how it touch me at home on a regular “take-care-of-the-garden” day. I manage to slip in at least one political criticism.

This is a fresher essay, written in late March, 2025, dated by a quick reference to the so-called “Signalgate” event.

Internet wisdom says I should make sure to get this online as soon as possible after an event I’m referencing, but I don’t think that’s necessarily true in my case. I’m not trying to get views because I’m talking about the latest squirrel climbing the tree in the garden.

This essay is actually about accountability, how some people are held accountable for their actions while others get off Scott free. How a lot of legislation is prohibitive and a lot of people get caught and punished for breaching those prohibitions while the ones making the prohibitions can gleefully ignore them. And maybe just a little bit of “Question Authority” tossed in to date myself.

Locked doors hide mysteries. Keyholes can reveal answers.I actually think this essay is about FBI discretion. I think that agents of that organization, with their target being a man, gleefully let a woman off the hook for more or less the same type of criminal behavior under her belt.

The man was being investigated for possible relation to an air crash. The woman seemed to be the "victim" of that same man's scheme at insurance fraud.Based exclusively on FBI interviews with the woman, I present a slightly different picture, a backstory for the generally well-known tale of Flight 967.

The tale of a woman who tries to shield herself behind the 1960s image of the good wife while generally throwing her husband under the wheels of the bus that she's riding on.

Here's an essay I wrote waaaay back in 2016, right after the blow to our collective reality represented by the election of a reality star as President of the United States.

It basically deals with how making stuff up that incites fear and loathing and then repeating it over and again was going to be used (and ended up being used!) to manipulate people into becoming a base for evil actions.
