Hey all and welcome back to you're listening to radio revel. Hope you all had a nice summer.

Starting up with the new school year, that is, back to school days, well I've shifted the focus for the next several episodes to my own school days, something I've mentioned in the past and have had on the back burner for a while.

In this series, which will probably take us up to the end of Season Four, I will be trying to remember what school was like for me in the '60s and '70s, combining those memories and anecdotes with things that were going on in the world outside of my school microcosmos.

Hope you enjoy the episode, This first one covers my first year in school, no pre-school for me, I went right into what was the closest to pre-school that existed for we of the final half-decade of the baby boomers: Kindergarten.

Hey all.

Last episode before a month-long break. This is the 5th installment of the novel I'm serializing.

You may recognize the story, you've heard it before, this is a version that I worked up to include in this novel.

Who knows what the answer to that question is. I certainly don't claim to, though I would answer it myself, based on my own experience with AI, both as a user and an annotator / trainer, with a fairly certain "no".

So, another in the loose series of rants on Artificial Intelligence. There's some Star Trek and even some Sweeny Todd in the mix.

This is also next-to-the-last in terms of episodes before a quick summer break. Next week's episode will close out this section of Season 4, and I expect to be back in early September with fresh episodes to carry us through December.

Hey again!

So, this time around, a bit of comment on an Irish series called The woman in the wall. And, a heads up that I'm going to take a break during, mostly, the month of August.

He saw the putrefaction in the leg, swollen and steaming, he saw the surgeon lift his knife. Six men stood around the victim, one poured alcohol into a funnel in the patient's mouth, another forced a plug of wood between the clenched teeth, the surgeon quickly cut through the flesh, sawed through the bone, lifted the severed leg like a trophy so the audience of somber young doctors in the gallery could see the results of the operation, the stump was cauterized with boiling fat, the screaming man wheeled into another room, the surgeon, covered with blood, wiped bloody hands on the apron, and prepared the instruments for the next patient being wheeled in.

Hey all.

Eric, over at the Break / Fix podcast has been a fan of mine for a while. We met on a podcasters' forum on discord and upon listening to one of my stories, Almost brothers, he wondered if I wouldn't work up a story for his podcast for the "Father's day" episode. So, we worked up this episode, which he's already done up live on his podcast.

Hey friends.

This was one of the last binges of the winter months, a double whammy, first the Netflix series 3 Body Problem, which was the standard 8-episode fare, then Three Body, which was the Chinese version of the same first novel of the sci-fi trilogy by Liu Cixin.

I chose, this time around, to talk about the 30-episode Chinese version. It was an experience, haven't seen much Chinese TV programming (beyond the soap operas there were always on the huge-screened TV at my favorite Chinese restaurant.), there was a lot of culture shock to deal with, plus some really marginal subtitles (translated to Spanish from some marginal English subtitles, it seems, and probably by AI!), yet I got through all 30 episodes and found I almost liked the Chinese version more.

I'm in my own time warp, getting ahead of schedule in June, with plans to have episodes for you all through the end of July, so that I can take a break until September. So, right now it's June 9, you won't see this until June 24 and I'm already getting the July 15 episode ready.... love this virtual world. Almost lets you be in two times and the same time!

He drank wine and danced with the men and the women congregated there until he fell exhausted on a sofa between new friends, in front of the huge window, shutters thrown wide open so that the rising sun would warm their faces. Only at this dawn did he run all the way home, his feet lighter than his music, to lock himself in his room and fall into his dreams.

This week's Tall tales episode is the next fragment from the novel Exile, written way back at the end of 1989. It's called ....if he were dead and continues the seemingly unconnected story that will surely be connected.
