Hey again!

On the road again, this time from New York where I've spent a couple of weeks teaching English to Chicago and the Midwest, this being the second part of that story, the drive up to Wisconsin and ten days working on and enjoying the farm I partially grew up on.

Though this episode describing my last visit to my Aunt Maxine's farm in 1992 can kind of stand alone, I do make some references to earlier parts of my life story as shared here on you're listening to radio revel, and I leave you these links to past episodes that might fill in any blanks you're wondering about.

Hello again!

Did you all notice that it was the "porn star" case that became the first criminal trial?

Doesn't matter that secret documents were stolen and strewn about on the floor. Doesn't matter that threatening calls were made demanding illegal acts. Doesn't matter that rioters were convened and let loose on a governmental building. What matters is that he did/didn't take his clothes off with that woman who wasn't his wife, then tried to buy her silence, then tried to cover it all up. Don't we just love a good sex scandal?

The women will take them down is my look at this theme. I don't know if I'm right or not, but when all else fails, when no one wants to point out what they've really done wrong, we always seem to fall back on between-the-sheets behavior with these men.

I didn't really plan on ever going back to the Midwest. I'd moved to the East Coast years before, then to Europe, I actually doubted that I would ever set foot in the USA again.

Still, circumstances after the few months I'd lived in Ávila led me and my mate to get on a plane, then a bus, and make those final visits to those haunts that I'd wandered through during the first two and a half decades of my life.

There was no one in front of the ticket windows, so Caroline stepped up to the first and smiled at the man working behind the barred opening. He did not look up but rather leaned a carton sign against the bars that read: “Closed, please use the next window.” Fortunately, there was no one waiting at the next window either, so Caroline simply slid to her right and smiled at the woman working behind that one, this woman did look at her, not with a smile but with a frown of disapproval, asked her to please wait behind the yellow line painted on the floor. Caroline of course did not see any reason to wait behind the yellow line, there was no one else waiting to buy a ticket, but she did as she was told, turning her attention to the third window and hoping that the man working there would be a little more pleasant.
