We talk about how kids sometimes decide to stop shooting. It can be team wide or simply one kid. They have reasons. We have suggestions.

We share stories about how our kids were trained by coaches who might have gone a bit overboard. We had coaches that asked 7-year-olds flipping tractor tires on ice.

What is the worst thing you've ever heard a parent shout toward the ice? What kind of mean-girl comments towards the refs? We have some doozies. All of us feel the injustice. Some of us let it out in ways that stagger the mind.

Everyone likes to be on the best team in the best place with the best supporting cast for their bestest little hockey player. Randall has grown. He now actually has fond memories of the times when his kids were in small ponds and enjoying their skills. Being the star on a middling high school team. Playing in-house over the summer. Watching in a different gear.

Lance thinks he's being too nostalgic, but also remembers those times fondly.

What do you do when your local rink closes? Is it time to move? I'm joking of course, but many parents have been through this. Right now it is happening in the Valley at a rink both of my sons played for. They almost closed my home rink during Covid. The emotions run high.
