Safe Routes Partnership is helping the community amid the Covid-19 Pandemic. In many communities, altered traffic patterns are undermining active transportation progress in neighborhoods and near schools, parks, senior centers, community centers, and other community hubs. Safe Routes of Health is aimed at working with five communities across the country to understand the effects that navigation apps are seeming to have on walkability, bikeability, and overall livability. Through conversations with local stakeholders including residents, community organizations, government agencies, and others, we will hear firsthand how navigation apps have influenced traffic patterns and created concerns for health, safety, and equity. We will also learn from stakeholders about any previous attempts to address the concerns through policy and other strategies. Parallel with engaging community stakeholders, our team will be developing an understanding of what data may be available and useful to validating and quantifying the effects of navigation apps. Our team will also be conducting a legal and policy analysis to identify potential strategies. Learnings from the five communities and parallel analyses will be compiled into a policy framework and report with recommendations for the local communities and other communities around the country to consider in addressing this challenge.
