Again, welcome back to Youth Voice!!!
In today's episode we decided to focus on the pressing issue of climate change and solutions such as the Green New Deal and the Paris Climate Accords. Global warming, as Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders puts it, is the most existential threat of our time. Greenhouse gas emissions, mostly from burning coal, oil, natural gas, and manufacturing cement are enormous man-caused contributors to global warming. The scope of adverse impacts that it is having on the world is becoming more and more harrowing; ranging all the way from literally turning the ocean into a rising acid pool to massive heat waves/wildfires. According to the Climate Clock, there are only 6 years and 337 days to achieve zero carbon emissions (or under a 34.7 degree Fahrenheit threshold) before the affects of climate change become irreversible. At this point, there is no more denying it, the science has long backed up that global warming exists and it needs to be addressed. While climate change is not a political issue, it has sadly been politicized by certain right-wing elected officials. The new Biden administration will start tackling this issue more forcefully than the previous administration (where almost no initiative whatsoever was taken to combat the climate crisis). This will no longer be misconceived as a left--right dispute, but rather a humankind dispute. The earth is our home, and we need to protect it by taking action (links provided below)! I hope all you viewers, newer to the podcast or those that have listened 'since the beginning, enjoy this episode and understand the significance of this existential crisis. Today's episode features Sharanya, Ben, Vageesh, Ishan, and Riddhi. Shoutout to Ishan for audio editing and Sharanya for video editing, thank you guys so much!
