A genre that continues to be underutilized even in today’s media is the story of the Mexican American voice. While there have been a few instances of break out films such as Real Women have curves and Selena too few have gone undiscovered. In this month’s episode I am returning the favor to a previous guest who introduced me to a Mexican cinema film of their childhood by introducing them to a Mexican American Cinema film from my childhood. Recent cinema history has had its fair share of both jukebox films a la moulin rouge as well as biographical movies weaving in and out of one artists music such as the most recently released Elvis. However this months film created a space in between these two style forming a jukebox film that utilizes the music of one artist group. Ironically it is the first of two in the recent decades to do this both sharing the same music of The Beatles. While we will save later Yesterday for another show perhaps, the movie that will be discussed in this episode tells the tale of love at first sight and the counter culture of the 1960s which the band in question contributed to.
