This week on Spotlight we will have a roundtable discussion on “Youth Participation and Leadership.” The focus of the discussion will be on what role young Zambians have in our democracy. Many have made much ado about the need for young leaders in politics and civil society but are young people ready?

Some of the points we will touch on are as follows:

The role of mentorship Building platforms and playing an active role Civil education and community service.

Leading the discussion will be Miss Bwalya and Jonah Banda.

Musa Kalenga is currently the head of digital marketing at Nedbank (One of the largest and newest banks in South Africa).Musa is a man of many talents and at a young age, he has managed to  find his niche and succeed in a field of tough competition. Her main concentration in the Governance and Development Programme is implementing activities under the Governance and Transparency through Radio project by working with radio stations, communities, and policy makers. Mrs. Gertrude Mwangala Akapelwa-Ehueni is the Founder, acting Vice-Chancellor and Executive Chairperson of the Victoria Falls University of Technology, which was established in 2009 and had its first enrollment in January 2010. Victoria Falls University is located in the southern city and tourism capital of Zambia, Livingstone. Victoria Falls University of Technology is one of the top universities of science and  technology devoted to the advancement of technological entrepreneurship in Africa.

She joins us on Perspectives  discuss VFUT's academic programmes, campus life for students and amenities and the significance of the university's affiliations with CISCO systems, Microsoft and Comp TIA.

General Malimba Masheke served as the last Prime Minister of Zambia from 15 March 1989 to 31 August 1991. He had previously been Minister of Defence from 1985 to 1988 and Minister of Home Affairs from 1988 to 1989. He was a Zambian army officer, career soldier, and career politician. General Masheke also served as Army Commander, he joins us on Perspectives for our special independence feature to share his memories as a young man and his involvement in the struggle for independence. What made him choose a military career and how were the conditions for young African natives in the per-independence armed forces of Northern Rhodesia.

Gen Masheke will also discuss the challenges of a hostile neighbor in Southern Rhodesia and one Adamson Mushala who terrorized his own nationals in North-western Zambia.
