Welcome back to Episode 57 of Zelocast – Glow with the Flow!
This week, we're bringing you along for a real-life jalan-jalan adventure! 🎙️🚆
Instead of recording in the studio, we're on the move—walking through the MRT station on our way to meet our lead guitarist, Zach. So if you hear train announcements, footsteps, or a little background noise... that's because you're experiencing the journey with us!
As we're making our way through the station, we start talking about something most people walk over every single day... without ever giving it a second thought.
Those yellow lines and little bumps on the ground.
To many people, they're just part of the floor.
To us?
They're our GPS.
They're our guide.
They're our "eyes" beneath our feet.
But recently, these tactile tiles have become the centre of a lot of online discussions and concern.
Are they really dangerous?
Should they be removed?
Or are we missing the bigger picture?
In this episode, we break it all down.
🟨 The Secret Language of the Floor
Ever wondered why some tactile tiles have long straight lines while others are covered in little dots?
We'll show you how these simple patterns help us navigate MRT stations, find ticket gantries, locate lifts, toilets, exits, and safely move around independently.
It's basically Google Maps... but for your feet. 😄
⚠️ The Viral Debate
You've probably seen people talking about tactile paving after reports of accidents.
We discuss the heartbreaking incident involving a woman who lost her life after a fall near a pedestrian crossing, why the conversation became so heated, and why removing tactile paving altogether may not be the solution many people think it is.
🚧 Our Biggest Obstacle? Sometimes... People.
Ironically, the tactile path is often blocked by...
📱 Someone scrolling TikTok.
🧳 A suitcase parked right in the middle.
⚠️ A "Wet Floor" sign placed exactly where we're supposed to walk.
It's not intentional most of the time—but these everyday obstacles can completely interrupt our route and make independent travel much harder than it needs to be.
💛 Let's Improve, Not Remove
Instead of taking tactile paving away, we believe the focus should be on improving it.
Better materials.
Better design.
Safer surfaces.
Because accessibility shouldn't disappear—it should evolve.
And of course... it wouldn't be Zelocast without a random joke.
😂 Quick question...
What's the similarity between a blind person and an MRT train?
You'll have to listen to find out... but let's just say we both depend on our tracks! 🚆😆
Whether you've always wondered what those yellow tiles are for or you've never noticed them before, this episode might just change the way you look at the ground beneath your feet.
✨ Together we make a difference. Win or lose, we are still champions.
