The straw. It once represented warm and fuzzy feelings because it was a part of so many memories. Getting a soda at the movies, milkshakes at the 50’s diner, grandpa’s homemade root beer floats or teenage meetups at the local fast-food restaurant. Then the silly straws or that hat that would hold the soda cans with a long straw to drink from it. It’s crazy to think that all of those straws exist somewhere still in the planet.
The straw no longer represents happy warm, fuzzy, feelings. Ever since the video of the turtle surfaced kids and adults everywhere are more conscientious of the impact this product is making in environments it doesn’t belong.
We are here to help with a few lite and simple hacks around the straw.
Sofia and Michelle talk STRAWS with Buzzfeed content curator Auri Jackson. From how we began using the straw to how many get used a day, this uplifting discussion will help any listener with simple tips on how to “stop sucking”.
In Episode 3 we talk about our relationships with water, the most important substance in our bodies and on our planet. We get into some facts around the plastic water bottles and how simple and economical it can be to get in the habit of carrying a reusable water bottle with you while simply saying no to single-use.
Have you ever wondered what the recycling symbol means? What do the different numbers represent? Which ones can you actually recycle? On this episode, Sofia and co-host Michelle sit down with special guest Jessica Aldridge (ADVENTURES IN WASTE) to explore recycling by numbers and help to answer some of the questions around plastics.
This is an introduction episode. Meet your host, Zero Waste Co. founder & zero waste consultant Sofia Ratcovich, and co-host, DJ & zero waste novice Michelle Kath Sinclair (DJ Lady Sinclair), as they introduce the concept behind this podcast, and it's sustainable life hacks.
