Knitting for the NICU Amy Baker Benefit Info https://www.facebook.com/events/393946435717839

    Help out here
    https://www.gofundme.com/.../amy-baker-benefit-knitting...
A week of streamed/ in-person concerts in which all proceeds will be donated as follows 90% to support Amy Bakers and 10% for supplies to make Hope Hearts for the NICU.
Also, we aim to collect as many kitted/crocheted infant hats, blankets, and booties as possible to donate to the NICU.
    Who is Amy Baker?
Amy is a mother of two and a passionate full-time teacher who teaches adapted core curriculum at a charter school for kids with autism.
Amy has recently had some pregnancy complications, which led to weeks in the hospital and the premature birth of her second son at 31 weeks.
Amy has always gone over and beyond for all of her students. We are attempting to do the same to help her and her family during these trying times.
    What are Hope Hearts?
Hope Hearts are small crocheted hearts ( designed by Amy) in which one stays with the infant at the NICU and the other stays with the parent, so that way both parent and child will always have a piece of each other even when they can't be together.
Hope Hart Pattern link!! (Will be here)
All donations have to be made with a hypoallergenic yarn such as Acrylic, or Cotton!!!
Email [email protected] to donate made goods/ or drop them off at one of the shows listed below.
    Amy situation:
Amy was admitted to the hospital at 29 weeks, on September 3rd, when she began leaking amniotic fluid due to a preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). During her hospital stay, Amy received antibiotics and steroids to help prevent infection and develop baby Liam's lungs. On September 21st, Liam Bruce Evans was born at 31 weeks and 6 days after a placental abruption. He weighed 4 lbs 15oz and was 17 in long. Liam has been lucky to have no serious complications from his premature birth. Due to his lungs being underdeveloped when he was born, he has been on and off cpap to give his lungs time to mature. He still experiences occasional apnea (periods of decreased heart rate and extended pauses in breathing) when breathing on his own. Right now he is working on gaining weight, breathing on his own full time, and drinking from a bottle instead of using a feeding tube so that he can go home. The money from this fundraiser will go to helping the family pay bills during Amy's extended maternity leave as well as child care for Liam until his immune system is ready for him to attend daycare

  • Yellowman

Zig At The Gig With King Yellowman

2021 Interview with Raggae Legend Yellowman !!!

King Yellowman has an incredible history in Reggae music. His upbringing at the Maxfield Home orphanage in Kingston and being albino in Jamaica were two obstacles he overcame and went on to be (at one time) the biggest reggae artist since Bob Marley. After winning a talent contest at Tastee Patties in Kingston, Yellow went on to excite reggae crowds all over Jamaica and the rest of the world with his boastful and sometimes bodacious lyrics. His ability to ride rhythm and excite a crowd made Yellow an instant hit in Jamaica. He also began to work with the Ace Sound System in St. Thomas and drew big crowds at his dancehall performances. Later in his career, Yellow began to spread out and work for a number of different producers, sometimes releasing as many as five albums per year. This led to a recording contract with CBS Records. Yellowman recorded one album with them before he was diagnosed with jaw cancer and was given six months to live. This was in 1986. After surgery an extended leave of absence from the record industry, Yellowman began his comeback with the song "Blueberry Hill", and his career was re-launched. His first album for RAS came from producer Phillip 'Fatis' Burrell and was called "Yellow Like Cheese". Coincidentally this was the start of a long and fruitful relationship with RAS and Yellowman and also RAS and 'Fatis' and his exterminator production. Yellowman has always been very professional to work with and always a respectful and reliable human being. He has managed to outlive his predicted fate of death and his performances are incredibly lively as he seems to have an unlimited amount of stage energy. We can only hope for the best for Yellowman. He has continued his hard work and his devotion to his family is to be complimented. The rudest Dancehall toaster of the 1980s, Jamaica's albino son Yellowman made as many enemies as fans with his controversial, often overtly sexist (if tongue in cheek) lyrics. Now back on the Ragga scene, singing at a slightly slower pace, Yellowman's witticisms are as cheeky, spirited, and intelligent as ever, and delivered with his customary sharp, melodic style.

  • Robert Kidney of The Numbers Band 15-60-75
Zig At The Gig With Robert Kidney of The Numbers Band 15-60-75

Robert Kidney founding member, singer songwriter, composer, and guitarist for the Number band.

The Numbers Band (a.k.a. 15-60-75) are an American blues rock and experimental rock band formed in Kent, Ohio, United States in 1969. They are part of the 'Akron Sound' that sprang forth from their home state. The original personnel were Robert Kidney (guitar, lead vocals), the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde's brother Terry Hynde (saxophone), Hank Smith (guitar, keyboards), Greg Colbert (bass) and Tim Hudson (drums). Chris Butler, from Tin Huey and The Waitresses, also played in the band for a stint as a bassist. They premiered as a live act at the local nightspot The Kove in July 1970. Later, they incorporated jazzy influences as well and they have stuck with their sound ever since. By 1972, Gerald Casale, future co-founder of Devo (bass), and David Robinson were added to the lineup. Casale was thrown out after wearing a monkey mask onstage. Due to interior pressures, Kidney terminated the project by year's end and joined his brother Jack's band, King of Hearts. However, King of Hearts reformed as a new Numbers Band a few weeks later with a retooled lineup that consisted of the Kidney brothers, Hynde, Drake Gleason (bass) and Jay Brown (drums). After two years of playing gigs, Brown left the band and Robinson came back. Michael Stacey (guitar), was added prior to the cutting of their 1976 live album Jimmy Bell's Still in Town. The following year, Gleason was replaced by Bart Johnson (bass). The Numbers Band, like most of the other Ohioans, never became renowned nationally and were not signed by the major labels.

  • Eliy Orcko Part 3

Zig At The Gig with Eliy Orcko Part 3

Former skate punk Eliy Orcko was born in a small town west of Cleveland, OH. His family relocated to South Florida where he spent a majority of his formative years. His first outlet in music started out in the punk scene in South Florida that quickly pushed him into the hardcore & post hardcore genre as he developed. Eliy constantly expresses he had no interest of being anything until recently, finding much of himself in his current years rapping after a long time of “bumming” around the west coast and coming back to Ohio to collect himself. Eliy’s music is a mixture of Hiphop, Soul, Jazz, Indie, Punk, and Folk pulling from influences like Mos Def to Bon Iver, Jeff Rosenstock, Kid Cudi, The Ink Spots, Kanye West and BloodStone. Allot of vocal melodies shine in Eliy’s music that gives him a different sound than most artist in the “Hiphop” genre, really giving him a sound of his own to hone in on while still using the classic boom bap format. Eliy is a very versatile artist with allot of content, and creativity willing to explore new sounds & mediums to grow and develop as an over all artist.

  • Jared Michael Nickerson of Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber
Zig At The Gig with Jared Michael Nickerson of Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber

Jared Michael Nickerson is a Grammy-nominated Bold Soul, Rock & Roll Brother from Ohio. He experienced his first taste of live performance at local high school talent shows, one of the”labs” along with the church and basement dens of the legendary Dayton funk scene which spawned the Ohio Players, Slave, Roger Troutman & Zapp, Sun, Dayton, Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame, Faze-O and members of Heatwave. He continued his musical development at the University of Notre Dame under the direction of Father Wiskerchen, (noted for his development of three-fourths of the “Chicago”horn section). After graduating with a B.A. in Business Management, Jared moved to Boston, studied for two years at the New England Conservatory of Music before embarking on his professional music career with a local seven-piece funk band, Hypertension.

After six years in Boston he returned to Dayton, Ohio and a year later joined the Cleveland Ohio band The Human Switchboard. After three years of touring the Midwest & East Coast still based in Ohio, he moved with the band to New York City and back-flipped into the local music scene of CBGBs, Danceteria, The Peppermint Lounge, Maxwells ( Hoboken N.J.) and The World. After HS dissolved Jared started his own band JJ Jumpers; joined the Black Rock Coalition becoming the B.R.C.’s first Director of Operations. His first booking was the B.R.C.’s first, two-day, mini-fest at CBGBs entitled “Stalking Heads” on February 11th and 12th,1987.
When he departed a few years later the new Director of Operations and BRC East & West Coast Booking Committees had access to rock & roll venues all across the country. Jared has “laid the bottom” for folks such as Nona Hendryx, Wadada Leo Smith, Human Switchboard, JJ Jumpers, Vernon Reid, Marshall Crenshaw, Melvin Van Peebles, Freedy Johnston, Catie Curtis, Ivan Julian, John Paul Bourelly, Katell Keineg, Bernie Worrell, The The, Gary Lucas’s Gods and Monsters, Chocolate Genius, Darlene Love, Jeff Buckley, The Yohimbe Brothers with DJ Logic & Vernon Reid, Tammy Faye Starlite and the Angels of Mercy, Pheeroan akLaff, Divine Pocket Bouncers, Cynthia Sley, Dayton Flic, The Raybeats and the Band of Gypsy’s Revisited Band. Jared co-wrote a tune, recorded and toured with Charlie Musselwhite. “Sanctuary”, on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label, found itself on numerous critic top ten lists and received a Grammy nomination.

A suggestion from a mutual friend, led to a call from Greg Tate landing Jared among a number of “Badasses” which included Vijay Iyer and Ronny “Wirepuller” Drayton for a jam session that morphed into Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber. Burnt Sugar Index LLC soon followed with Jared handling all BSAC’s business affairs such as arranging an eight-week residency with BRIC studios (The organization that presents Celebrate Brooklyn) to workshop and preview Melvin Van Peebles theatrical version of “Sweet Sweetback’s Badasssss Song”. The workshop culminated with three sold-out BRIC performances before BSAC departed for Paris to perform two sold-out performances at the Sons D’Hiver Festival in 2010. Jared, overseeing “bookings” throughout the United States, Canada, France, England, Portugal, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands and Italy, just celebrated his twentieth year as BSAC’s CEO last year. He’s even “dipped his toe” in tour managing having worked with Concord Records Alt-Folk artist Valerie June including the set-up of her August 21st, 2013 debut television appearance on David Letterman. His television appearances include Late Night With David Letterman, The Jools Holland Show, MTV, VH1, The Tonight Show with Conan O Brien, The John Stewart Show and as bassist with The Kennedy Center Honors BB King Tribute Band; jamming with Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, Etta James, Joe Williams and Steve Cropper to name a few. You’ll find him in Nelson George’s “Finding The Funk” documentary speaking about growing up while playing music in Dayton Ohio in the late Sixties. Jared has toured extensively performing at venues such as the Toronto Skydome, Red Rocks, the L.A. Forum, the Oakland Coliseum, England’s Brixton Academy, Brighton Dome & Reading Festivals, The Beacon Theater, Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden.
