In verse 12 of Revelation 22, Jesus makes the statement to John, “My reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Does this mean that salvation is by works instead of by grace? The answer is a resounding “no’! Rather, this statement by Christ is a statement about the changed nature of God’s people rather than about their behavior at any given time. Any other interpretation flies in the face of the teaching of salvation by grace. As we continue in the Book of Revelation, we come to a phrase that Elder Buddy Abernathy has taught us about before: “Behold, I come quickly.” The point has been made already that, at least from our perspective, the term “quickly” doesn’t necessarily mean “soon,” but it really means “suddenly.” When the Lord returns, it will be “suddenly.” But from God’s perspective, it means BOTH “suddenly” AND “soon.” In more than one place in Scripture, we are taught that a day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day. This means that from God’s perspective, it’s only been two days since the resurrection of Christ. Join us today as Bro. Buddy shows us how time does not mean the same to God as it does to us.

As we saw in the first half of this sermon, the phrase “the time is at hand” does not necessarily mean soon to happen, but rather certain to happen and to happen quickly. There is a strong sense in which the coming of the Lord is always imminent, and “at hand”! The ideas of the religious world today regarding the end times is more distraction and deception than anything else. As we continue in the last chapter of Revelation, we find an interesting saying: “Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” In some cases, the Lord has told his servants to “seal up” the sayings; but now He instructs John NOT to seal it up, but to broadcast it! The reason for this is that “the time is at hand.” When we hear this phrase, we think of something that is imminent or soon to happen. However, this phrase in Scripture doesn’t necessarily mean “right away,” but it means something that is certain to happen, and to happen in a certain way: it is to happen “quickly.” Join us today for the first half of this sermon by Elder Buddy Abernathy.

In the sermon today, we move into the final subdivision of the Book of Revelation, which I have entitled, “In the Meantime.” This sermon is a little shorter than usual, because it is the last half of a sermon where Elder Buddy Abernathy finished up the previous subdivision of Revelation and then moved on into this last portion, which focuses on the last verses of the Bible. These verses that we deal with today return our focus to our earthly experience instead of a heavenly vision. They teach us what we should be focusing on “in the meantime,”, while we wait for the return of our Lord. This is a sort of “epilogue” to the Book of Revelation, and in this portion of Scripture we are reminded of the urgency of the Second Coming of Christ. The Lord is telling us in these verses that the focus of the New Testament church ought to be that Jesus is coming back to take us home! In most eschatological teaching today, we are told that certain events must occur before Jesus comes again. But the Bible teaching is that Jesus is coming quickly, and we ought to be looking for and hasting the day of the Lord! Join us today as we move into this epilogue of Revelation and find encouraging words for us in the daily grind of our lives, including the admonition that we should “worship God.”

As we return to Elder Buddy Abernathy’s exposition of the Book of Revelation, we come to the end of another division within that series, which I have entitled “A New Vision of Heaven.” You may recall that we have seen the new heavens and new earth and the Bride of Christ in Chapter 21, and the living waters and the tree of life in Chapter 22. Today we conclude this subdivision by looking at the rest of the vision of John in Chapter 22:3-5. We see here that there will be no more curse in heaven, and that we shall see God’s face there.
