In this sermon, we continue our study of the theology of government in our ongoing exposition of the Book of Romans. As we did in the previous sermon, we begin in Romans 13:1 and explore the idea of the separation that ought to exist between the Kingdom of God and the kingdoms of men. While the idea of a “marriage” between church and state might sound enticing to some, in reality it has always led to the corruption of the true worship of God. In fact, it has been during the times of greatest persecution that the faith has seemed to thrive the most! Join us today as we explore the effect of persecution on the Kingdom of God.

When we paused the message yesterday, we were about to finish up demonstrating the vast differences between the Kingdom of God and the kingdoms of men. Today, we will finish up our discussion of these differences, and then focus upon the separation that ought to always exist between these two Kingdoms. In doing so, we will focus on several writings by Elder John Leland, an Old Baptist minister from the late 1700s and early 1800s, who was a champion for the religious liberties enshrined in our United States Constitution.
