In today’s message, we come to the end of Chapter 9 of Nehemiah. In the great “prayer/sermon” of this chapter, we have seen them praising God for His greatness and for His goodness; today, we see them praising God for His grace. The nation of Israel was almost continually backsliding, but God was continually gracious and merciful to them. Join us as we see the grace of God in His dealings with His people.

When we paused the sermon yesterday, we were continuing to examine the prayer/sermon of Nehemiah Chapter 9. We are looking at the content of this prayer/sermon, which traces the history of the Nation of Israel from their formation up until the present time of Nehemiah. We were in the middle of learning about God’s formation of the Nation, and today we will continue learning about His goodness to them throughout their history. And once again, we will learn how Israel continually forsook God, yet He chastened them in love and took them back when they repented. Join us as we continue to see the goodness of God to His people.

As we have seen in our study of Nehemiah, Chapter Nine begins with the people of God continuing to worship God even after the conclusion of the Feast of Tabernacles. The Israelites who returned from the Captivity were hungry for the word of God, and the leaders – including Nehemiah and Ezra – gave it to them! Chapter Nine details a public worship service wherein the leaders of the people prayed to God in what is basically a long and detailed sermon. It traces the history of Israel, and emphasizes how great God is and how lowly man is. Join us today as we find the Jews in Jerusalem praising God for His greatness.

As we move into the Ninth Chapter of Romans, we see a distinct change in mood from the previous chapter. Paul goes from the mountaintop of eternal salvation and security to the valley of earthly sorrow over his Jewish countrymen who do not believe in Christ. Why is his heart so heavy? Is it because he is afraid that some of his fellow Jews are going to die and go to hell because they don’t believe? The answer is a resounding, “No!” The explanation lies in two important doctrines that are taught in Scripture: “eternal” versus “time” salvation.
