On the Sunday morning when this sermon was preached, the electricity was off due to a storm. In many churches, this would have hindered the worship; but not in a Primitive Baptist church! Here at Zion church, we were able to continue right along without interruption, because we adhere to the simplicity of the first century form of worship. Here at Zion, we strive to maintain the “simplicity” that is in Christ! Join us as we begin to learn about the simple worship through the preaching of the simple gospel, with the simple message that one day Christ is coming again to take us home!

In the first half of this powerful sermon, preached by Elder David Crawford recently when he visited with us here at Zion Primitive Baptist Church, we learned that life is a wilderness. We are pilgrims and strangers in a strange land, seeking a better country. But we learned that there is a Rock in the wilderness that we can lean on! And the Scripture teaches us that this Rock miraculously produces not just water, but honey! Join us today as we see the glory of the help of the Lord Jesus Christ while we journey in the wilderness of life, and how we can receive the honey out of the Rock.

In this powerful message, Elder David Crawford reminds us from Psalm 81 that life is a wilderness. God wants us to think of ourselves as pilgrims on a journey through a wilderness experience! Much like the children of Israel, we struggle in that journey, and need help as we traverse this difficult path. Join us today as Bro. David begins to teach us about the trials of the wilderness journey of life, and we learn that we have a Rock in that wilderness to help us through.

As we began to see yesterday, the Holy Spirit helps us in our lives here and now, especially in our prayer life. He intercedes for us before the throne of grace, and as we will see today, so does Jesus Christ. We need this intercession to translate our prayers into requests that are in accord with the will of God. Even when we don’t know how to pray, we have an Advocate with the Father Who always intercedes in the exact right way. Join us today as we continue to learn about the intercession of the Holy Spirit.

As we approach the climax of Romans Chapter 8, we come to a very reassuring passage about the Holy Spirit and how He helps our infirmities. Don’t our infirmities threaten to overcome us in this life? Mine sure do, especially in my prayer life! But the Holy Spirit is here to help us. He translates our feeble prayers into a language that is powerful before the Lord. Join us today as we begin to see how our Holy Helper, the Holy Ghost, helps us when we pray.

As we began to see yesterday, “hope” is an essential concept for our assurance in the here and now. Biblical hope is a real thing, a confident expectation of good, based upon the finished work of Christ on the cross. We began to see yesterday that, if our hope is built on what we have done, we will be ashamed of that hope! Join us today as we continue looking at biblical hope, and learn about the foundation of that hope, which is sure and steadfast.

As we move on through Chapter 8 of the Book of Romans, we come to a precious statement by Paul: “We are saved by hope.” For those of us who are familiar with what Primitive Baptists believe about hope, we understand that “hope” is not some ephemeral concept, some wispy wish that probably won’t come to pass. Rather, hope in Scripture is a confident expectation of some good thing to come! Join us as we learn about the true hope of the Bible, and how it saves us here and now.

As we began to see yesterday, adoption is a central concept to Scripture. We learned that God the Father purposed our adoption, and God the Son paid for our adoption by His death on the cross. Join us today as we continue examining the concept of adoption, and find that God the Holy Spirit applies the Spirit of adoption to our hearts. Ultimately, our great hope is the culmination of our adoption, which is the glorification of our bodies in the Resurrection.

The principle of “adoption” is central to the word of God. It applies particularly to our eternal salvation in Christ Jesus. We find in the Scripture that God the Father purposed our adoption before the foundation of the world, God the Son paid for our adoption on the cross, and the Holy Spirit applies our adoption to us in our lives through the new birth. Join us today as we learn about how adoption works in the Bible.

As we began to see yesterday, in order to experience the abundant life here and now, we must be led by the Spirit of God. There are many “spirits” in the world, most of which will lead us very far from the Kingdom of God! Join us today as we continue to learn about the importance of being led by the Spirit, and we ultimately see that the Spirit of God will ALWAYS lead us in accordance with the word of God.
