In December of 2000, a motorist driving in Parley's Canyon spotted the body of 75 year old Herbert John Strehl. Strehl was a German immigrant and business owner in Salt Lake City. Although police were aware of some civil disputes Strehl was involved in, nobody suspected he would be the victim of homicide.

In 2000, a mystery caller phoned 911 stating they saw someone slip through the ice at Pineview Reservoir. Investigators found a vehicle at the dam belonging to Sheri Stark and a suicide note. As the investigation moved forward, detectives determined the mystery caller was Sheri herself.

After finishing an exam, college student Valaine Briggs walked out to her car, never to be seen again. After just a two days, her body was found nude with her ankles and wrists bound with her own clothing. Leads quickly dried up and no arrests have been made. A notorious serial killer has been ruled out and the DNA evidence left behind has never found a match.
