John 20:1-10

On that first Easter morning, the world changed—not just because of an empty tomb, but because of what it meant: Jesus is alive. In John’s Gospel, Easter unfolds not with fireworks but with quiet moments—Mary alone in the garden, Peter and John peering into the tomb, a gardener who turns out to be the risen Christ. Through these stories, we’re invited to believe not just that something happened, but that someone lives. Jesus is alive.

But the good news doesn’t stop there. Jesus is victorious. He didn’t just survive death—He triumphed over it. Every plan that aimed to silence Him—political, religious, even cosmic—failed. His resurrection flipped the script. The cross, once a symbol of fear and shame, became a sign of grace and love. What looked like defeat was actually a divine victory.

And finally, Jesus is exalted. He didn’t rise just to return to life as before—He rose to reign. His rising isn’t complete until He ascends, returning to the Father. That’s what Mary learns in the garden: don’t cling to the way things were, because something even greater is coming. Jesus now sits at the right hand of God, lifted high, and nothing can undo what He’s accomplished.

This Easter, we remember who Jesus is—and in doing so, we remember who we are. We are loved. We are victorious through Him. We are part of a bigger story that continues today. Because He lives, we live with hope.

But this wasn’t just a gentle encouragement. It was a radical invitation to live differently. A call to deep kindness—the kind that costs something, that gets uncomfortable, that sees people fully, especially in their pain and hidden places. We are reminded that God doesn’t just see our highlight reels—God sees all of us. And loves us still.

Maundy Thursday invites us to step into that same kind of love: fierce, rooted, embodied. The kind that bends low and serves. The kind that looks like Jesus.

Tonight, as we gather around the table, may we be reminded: We are fully seen. Fully known. Fully loved. And we are sent out to love others just the same.

John 18:1-11

On Palm Sunday, we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Crowds cheered, waving palm branches, shouting “Hosanna.” But in just a few days, those same voices turned to “Crucify.”

In this message, we step into that turning point—into the quiet of the Garden of Gethsemane. It’s there, in the shadows of ancient olive trees, that Jesus knowingly walks toward betrayal. When the soldiers arrive, He doesn’t run. He steps forward. And when they ask for Jesus of Nazareth, He answers with two powerful words: “I AM.”

It’s the same divine name God spoke from the burning bush. The same name Jesus used when He walked on water to calm His disciples’ fears. And now, just hours before the cross, Jesus speaks it again—not with thunder, but with quiet authority. And in that moment, the soldiers fall back. Even they can sense something holy.

But standing nearby, Peter is unraveling. Moments earlier, he swore he’d never leave Jesus. Yet as the night unfolds, Peter denies Him—not once, but three times. “I am not,” he says, over and over. Where Jesus stands in strength, Peter crumbles in fear.

This sermon traces that contrast. The strength of “I AM.” The heartbreak of “I am not.” And the grace that comes after, when Jesus—after His resurrection—seeks Peter out and lifts him back up.

It’s a message about identity, failure, and forgiveness. About the times we miss the mark and lose ourselves. And about the One who never changes. Because even when we say “I’m not enough,” Jesus still is.

He still is faithful. He still is present. He still is love.

John 15:1-13

This week wraps up our series on the “I Am” statements of Jesus in John’s Gospel. In this final message, we’re looking at Jesus’ words: “I am the true vine.” But that’s not all—he also says, “My Father is the vinedresser, and you are the branches.” Three images. Three relationships. One powerful message.

We explore what it means for Jesus to be the true source of life and why the Father, as the gardener, lovingly prunes us—even when it’s painful. And we dig into what it really looks like to abide in Jesus—not just as a passive thing, but as an active choice to stay rooted in love.

You’ll hear about:

The Old Testament meaning behind the vine

The difference between true and false sources of life

What God might be doing in seasons of loss or pruning

Why abiding comes before bearing fruit

And we’ll end with three questions to reflect on:

Are you connected to a false vine?

Is there something in your life God may be pruning?

It’s a message about staying rooted, trusting the Gardener, and letting your life produce fruit that really lasts.

John 11:17-27

It’s MLB Opening Weekend, and if you know baseball, you’ve probably heard of “The Yankee Way”—a philosophy that shapes how the team operates. What if we talked about The Jesus Way?

In John’s Gospel, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” But what does that actually mean for how we live? Looking at Jesus’ life, we see a clear pattern—he loves deeply, serves humbly, and welcomes those others overlook. He heals, he weeps, he challenges power, and he always leads with compassion.

The problem is, a lot of people today claim to follow Jesus but don’t always reflect his way. Instead of love and humility, we sometimes see division, judgment, and selfishness in his name. That’s not The Jesus Way.

So, what does it look like to actually follow Jesus? It means choosing love when it’s hard, serving instead of seeking status, and living in a way that points people to the real Jesus. When we do that, we’re not just talking about faith—we’re living it.

Martha and Mary were deep in mourning. Their brother, Lazarus, was gone—his death final, his spirit departed. But when Jesus arrived, He shattered their understanding of finality. “I am the resurrection and the life,” He declared, not just promising a future hope but bringing resurrection power into the present. Moments later, His words became reality as Lazarus stepped out of the tomb, proving that Jesus has authority over death itself. This miracle set in motion the final days of Jesus’ ministry, leading to His own crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. For those who believe in Him, death is not the final word—life is. When all seems lost, when the world says it’s over, Jesus speaks one last word: “Arise.”

John 10:7-18

Scammers, false leaders, and voices of fear surround us, but Jesus offers something different. In John 10, He declares, “I am the Good Shepherd,” the one who knows His sheep, protects them, and even lays down His life for them. Unlike hired hands who flee at danger or thieves who come to steal and destroy, Jesus calls His followers to trust His voice and find security in Him. Just as a shepherd leads his flock to safety, Jesus goes before us—even through suffering and death—to open the way to life. Do we recognize His voice? And more importantly, are we willing to follow where He leads?
