I tried my hardest. But it wouldn’t work. All the water I had available in my eyes was gonna come pouring out any second. This is the point at which I wish I was much older than I actually am, because I start bawling. I didn’t mean for it to happen, it just happened. Everyone and everything around me is a blur. Everyone’s laughing, and I feel so embarrassed.
As I walk home, I check my phone. My best friend Ashley sends me a video of the event. She also sends me laughing emoji faces. I ask her what is funny about this. She says it’s hilarious and I am useless and weak. It feels like a cold fist just grabbed my heart.
“How was school today?” my mom asks. I don’t want to lie to her, but if I tell her the truth, it’s just gonna lead to a conversation between her and the principal. “It was good.” I say, fully knowing that she figured out I was lying. “You can tell me anything, honey. I’m here for you.”
“No, seriously. It’s fine.”
“IT’S FINE MOM! CAN’T YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE FOR ONCE? I’M IN MIDDLE SCHOOL ALREADY! YOU NEVER TELL ME YOUR PROBLEMS!”
With that, I stomp to my room in anger. I’m so mad at everyone, everything, and most of all, myself. I don’t talk to my mom at all, not even the next morning.
The next day, I walk into school, and suddenly, I’m laughed at by people left and right. So I go to my comfort zone at school in times of trouble. The bathroom. It’s the only place where there aren’t people 24/7. As I stay there, I think about my life. Why does this happen to me? Why not anyone else? Why me? Why me? Those words repeat in my head over and over again.
When I get home, my mom isn’t there. I look to the fridge, and I see a note. It says, I am gonna be gone. I am going to a place, there is a baked potato in the fridge, you can eat it for dinner. As I eat, I think of the day that I just had. I guess I could’ve told a teacher, but seriously. What good is THAT gonna do? It’s just gonna make people hate me even more.
The night passes by. My mom doesn’t come home. I just assume there’s lots of traffic, but hours pass by and she’s still not there. I check my phone for any missed calls. Sure enough, there’s five missed calls.
Then I check my messages. She says she’s gonna be late. So I just turn on the TV and sit back and relax. As I scroll through the channels. I see the headline on the news. It says: Woman gets in a car crash.
