15When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.” 16So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died: 17‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.” ’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Forgiveness — to be gracious; to pardon or release someone from a penalty.
Christians have received God’s forgiveness and are commanded to extend that same forgiveness to others.
12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

It takes faith in God to forgive others the way God has forgiven you. In particular faith that understands:

1. God providentially uses the MALICE of others to accomplish His PLAN for your life. Providence—God’s superintendence over the flow of events to best accomplish His will.
28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

2. Every person you’ve met, every place you’ve been, and every event in your life (GOOD AND BAD) was by God’s DESIGN.
9We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

Therefore forgiveness (or the lack thereof) shows what we really BELIEVE about God. It shows our true THEOLOGY, not our Sunday morning THEOLOGY.
Remember: People will intentionally hurt you, but their intentions are IRRELEVANT because God meant it for GOOD.

1. Divine healing is found throughout the bible. God is our healer.
26saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”

2. A common component of New Testament healing stories is FAITH in JESUS.

20And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, 21for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” 22Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.

27And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 29Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

“What if I haven’t been healed, or my loved one wasn’t healed? Does that mean I lack faith?”
Some things to consider:
1.) All miraculous healings are TEMPORARY. Total HEALING is promised for all believers in the next life.
2.) There is no direct CORRELATION between an answered prayer for healing and a person’s LEVEL OF FAITH.
3.) God may choose to not heal someone because of their GREAT FAITH!

2And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. 3Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. 4And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” 5And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. 6But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” 7And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong.

7So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. Conclusion:
The Lord determines WHO TO HEAL to , WHEN to do it, and HOW it will be done.
But it will always EXALT Jesus.
Miraculous healing of sickness, disease, and infirmities are a sign that the kingdom of God has come. There’s a greater purpose than the healing itself.
What we can do while we wait for God’s healing:
CONFESS and REPENT of all known sin. Exercise wisdom in CARING for your BODY. Stand on His promises and keep asking, seeking, and knocking!

On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Sabbath
Derived from a Hebrew word that means “cease” or “desist”.
The Sabbath was a day (from Friday evening until Saturday evening) when all ordinary work stopped.

Christians are not commanded to observe the Sabbath, but it’s always been for man’s benefit, not God’s.
27And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

Faith that rests is faith that believes God’s promise to provide for our needs when we make the time to rest and reflect on Him.
God is always with us and is our partner in life. He hasn’t left us to try to figure out life on our own.
8It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

He is far more capable of providing for our needs than we are.
20And if you say, ‘What shall we eat in the seventh year, if we may not sow or gather in our crop?’

“The rich in this present age” He’s speaking to us! By the world’s standards we’re rich.
Money only has significance in this life.
It’s possible to be both RICH and POOR.

20But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

“Charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches”
Having money is not the MEASURE of a man or a woman.
By its nature wealth is volatile and uncertain. You CHOOSE(and have CHOSEN!) what to set your hopes on.

4Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! 5Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

“But on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”
God is the true provider of everything. God wants you to enjoy what you have.
If you don’t enjoy what you have THAT'S your CHOICE.

19And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God.

“They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share”
If you are a born-again believer, your new nature is GENEROUS like your Father.
We are MANAGERS of God’s wealth, not OWNERS.

And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Money has potential like a SEED.
If invested for the kingdom, God guarantees DIVIDENDS both now and into eternity.

Faith that gives financially: Believes God is the true provider of wealth and can be trusted to meet our needs.
Believes wealth carries an OBLIGATION to use it for good. Believes giving is an INVESTMENT in eternity.

To have faith to stay in an undesirable situation that God won’t let you leave:
Be TRANSPARENT with God. Don't be AFRAID to tell Him you're confused, frustrated and disappointed with the present situation and how He's handled it.

Be HUMBLE. You never know the whole story. God is at work, even if the situation hasn’t changed.

Trust Him. Have faith in God's CHARACTER when you don't understand His PLAN.

Wait on Him. One day it will all make sense, but until then, do what HE'S CALLED YOU TO DO.

YIELD. Surrender your will to God's plan.

Everyone places their faith in something or someone, whether it’s warranted or not.
No one is faithless.
Faith that saves (i.e. saving faith) is belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior that results in repentance from sin and the commitment of one’s life to follow Him.
From the jailer’s experience we learn:
Saving faith transforms how we THINK and BEHAVE. We are never the same!
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

14What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?

To have saving faith you must first HEAR and UNDERSTAND the gospel, which means there must be a MESSENGER.
17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Messengers that share the good news of saving faith experience the matchless joy of knowing they are CO-LABORERS with God.
14How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? “Is it possible to be both godly and successful?
Do I have to choose one or the other?”

Some truths to remember:
Godliness (obedience) is commanded in every situation. It’s a non-negotiable.
15but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
1 Peter 1:15 (ESV)
11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives
2 Peter 3:11 (NIV)
Success is God’s promise to those who obey Him.
7Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. Joshua 1:7 (ESV)
40Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.

Conclusion:
With God there’s no conflict between success and godliness.
You don’t have to choose one or the other.
“Then why don’t I feel successful?”
Success = The accomplishment of some aim or purpose.
Everyone aims to satisfy three desires in life:
The desire for Protection: “I feel safe. All my needs are being met.”
The desire for Pleasure: “I want to enjoy life, my family, my job.”
The desire for Purpose: “I’m making a difference. My contribution matters. Someone would miss me if I were gone.”
When all three desires are satisfied we feel like a success.
We’re restless when they’re not.
How do you respond when one of the 3 is vulnerable or threatened?
Is the threat real or imagined?
God is the One who satisfies all life’s desires.
He is our protector, He gives our lives purpose, and He is our joy.
Following Jesus is the path to a successful life.
Key Principle:
You can have a successful life (i.e. 3 desires met) and not be successful person (i.e. not accomplish a goal).
And you can be a successful person and not have a successful life.
A successful life is God’s promise to those who obey Him.
Don’t sacrifice a successful life to be what you think is a successful person.
