Scripture: Luke 4:16-21
Lesson Texts
18"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Luke 4:18–19 (ESV)
18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:18–19 (KJV)
Heartbroken = the heart is SHATTERED in pieces (DISCOURAGEMENT, DISAPPOINTMENT, and DESPAIR).
Everyone will be heartbroken at some point in their life because we LIVE in a SINFUL, WORLD.
12In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope.
Ephesians 2:12 (NLT)
4"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:4 (ESV)
1"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
Isaiah 61:1–3 (NKJV)
20And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21And he began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
Luke 4:20–21 (ESV)
The year of the Lord's favor represents the entire ERA of SALVATION (i.e. the church age).
Jesus said we are LIVING in the year of the Lord's FAVOR! Are you acting like it??
