People are always looking to understand how to become a leader and how to improve their leadership. It is also often said that you cannot improve what you can't measure (and variants of this).

So this raises the important question of how to measure leadership.

Today, we are joined by Michael Tanner, the founder of Credible Leaders and the host of the Rookie Leaders podcast.  Michael has developed an equation for measuring leadership and a 5 level scale for improving your leadership.

Michael's equation measure a leader across the four categories of Credibility, Competence, Motive and Relationships. 

You can use this equation and the Credible Leaders questionnaire to self measure your leadership and to also ask your team to measure your leadership.  Doing both of these things allows you to build self awareness of any gaps between your own self perception and the perception of your team.  The gaps can give you an action list of where you need improvement in your leadership approach.

Michael's 5 levels of leadership see the leader move on this scale:

1. Manager
2. Achiever
3. Transformer
4. Influencer
5. Multiplier

As we move up this scale you are shifting from telling people what to do to inspiring them into action because they want to.
