Poem: "You've changed"

One day, someone will say “You’ve changed.”

Smile back, eye to eye,

pause as their pupils mirror back the new iteration. 

Shake their hand, send your thanks.

Be on your way.

Of course you changed.

They have too. Those words were new.

An envelope set on fire would have housed them better,

But they were impatient.

Impatient to catch up.

Impatient to wait. 

You ran away from person I first met.

You found another version of you.

One you liked better.

You gave them new shoes, new eyes,

and a new voice. 

You ran further. Needed another upgrade.

The software outdated.

I want to meet the next change. 

The moment you become stagnant,

Is the moment you change for worse. 

I hope you change.

Time and time again.

With the seasons, 

with your adventures,

With every run.
