Poem: “I sometimes forget I'm running"

These are the beautiful things I saw,

It was the smile you wore,

when the confidence kicked in.

The first daylight, after a night by your side in the dark.

Watching you become tired,

deplete yourself,

yet still find a way,

make a way,

light the way.

I saw you make friends,

new ones,

re-learn old ones.

Connect them, feel like one.

I moved slowly and watched the elaves fall.

It stopped me

from falling.

Till sunset we ran, bathed in golden light

Returning home as silhoutettes.

I saw the steam float off the back of your neck.

and the coffee put colour in your cheeks.

I saw it all

I still do

I sometimes forget I'm running.
