Poem / Prose: I’m arrogant.

I'm arrogant and I'm not a purist. I go into most things backwards. I do everything thinking I can win because it shows me the fastest way to lose. If I'm going to lose, I don't want to lose slowly. It's just like sitting the table after dinner and learning the rules of a new card game. No-one listens till the game begins. We learn best by doing. Experience solidifies and accelerates knowledge in a way that theory could only dream of.

So here I am sitting foolish and brash.

So this week, I've been advised against.

Against doing what's unconventional.

Against doing what sells best.

Against saying things that make it easier for others to understand.

I'm trying to do things earlier than the timeline suggests.

I'm trying to make urgency a friend yet not rush.

I'm trying things simply to prove my own theories.

And sometimes, I run hot, and it all blows up.

Sometimes, I miss the mark, fall short, or end up lost.

Sometimes, I end up laughing, other times crying.

Often, I go to bed thinking what in the world am I doing.

Often, I sit in the shower a little too long, wondering how it all come together.

Often, I walk home calling friends hoping for the smallest drop of wisdom.

So, here I am. A little arrogant, a little stubborn, and lacking a little convention.

I'm not looking for perfect.

I'm looking for what's on the other side of perfect,

the mess that makes us a human.

I think that's where I sit,

trying to make something beautiful of it.
