Poem:
Only my friends know the colour
On me
Nuanced in the same way
You can’t tell the difference
Between the pink
of sunrise
or sunset.
Blush
An asymmetry
Between what I
wanted the world to know
And what it somehow
knew already.
I hoped for a soft announcement
Of the subtle things I felt
But I was
too shy
Blush
My cheeks spoke in italics
Sometimes, with an accent
Mispronouncing words
Maybe because they were nervous
Or a little forgetful
The more they spoke
The fonts changed from italics to fuschia
And became bold 14pt
With hints of crimson and a late-day pink.
They don’t speak like this often,
But sometimes
I can see the underline
Of questions
We don’t know the answers to.
