087. Ferocious Warmth Leadership with Tracey Ezard

Listen Later

💭 When being a leader is often a balance between heart and mind, the weighing question is at what cost?

Our guest this week discusses the value of psychological safety in the workplace and how it is not just about the absence of bullying, but creating a culture where individuals feel comfortable taking risks, challenging the status quo, and engaging in open and honest communication without fear of retribution.

We are joined by Tracey Ezard, a keynote speaker, author, leadership and team educator. The topic of the episode is Tracy's book, "Ferocious Warmth," which explores the concept of warmth in leadership. Tracey believes that self-reflection is important for leaders and suggests using the "ferocious wolves" approach, which involves examining one's strengths and recognizing when they are out of balance.

Tracey highlights the dangers of extreme leadership styles, such as those that are overly autocratic or too focused on personal relationships, which can result in unhealthy or even traumatic experiences for employees. We learn about the value of creating a learning culture by considering different viewpoints, rather than imposing our own ideas. The concept of "ferocious warmth" in leadership, which involves balancing different conflicting qualities such as challenge and support, realism and optimism, and power with love.
