  • Glen's Quarantine Mixtape #qmt
One year later and we are still quarantining!!

Here's a look back at our episodes of the "Quarantine Mixtape" mini-series.

All streaming sites have become extinct...your CD and vinyl collection has long since sold off...you have but 1 cassette remaining, laying around the house - this is the tape you'll be playing until you are out of the Covid-isolation quarantine.
What songs are on the mixtape, and why?

    Glen's Mixtape - "192 Spicey Tuna" :
    Side A (28:37) DEFTONES : Minerva
    ALICE IN CHAINS : Would?
MATTHEW GOOD : 99% of Us is Failure
METALLICA : On Through the Never
    CHANTAL KREVIAZUK : Surround
    MUDVAYNE : Mercy/Severity
    BILLIE EILISH : Lovely

Side B (29:42) MATTHEW GOOD : While We Were Hunting Rabbits
TAYLOR SWIFT : Never Grow Old
IRON MAIDEN : The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
LINKIN PARK : Somewhere I Belong

...very Glen with his picks here (all over the place) ..I love the use of a 12min song on Side B ...and the double-shot of Matt Good!

  • Josh #5 : Pearl Jam - 'Vs'
Upon its release, Vs. set the record for most copies of an album sold in its first week, a record it held for five years.
Vs., featured a rawer and more aggressive sound compared with the band's previous release.
It was the band's first collaboration with producer Brendan O'Brien

  • 10 $ellouts (Part 2/2)
"Selling out" is a common expression for the compromising of a person's integrity, morality, authenticity, or principles in exchange for personal gain, such as money. ...

The term could also be used as 'sold out' depending on the context.
Glen and I discuss and break down some the most infamous turnings-of-the-tide of bands that ended up alienating their initial or "target audience", seemingly in a calculated business move in order to pursue the Almighty Dollar!!

  • Artists Selling Their Song Catalogues to Faceless Companies (Part 2/2)
Bob Dylan recently sold the rights to his entire music catalogue for $300 million dollars..Taylor Swift did the same thing for a reported $450 million.
The Killers, Imagine Dragons and many more artists have been following suite.

Before he passed, David Bowie seemed to be (as per usual) ahead of the curve - selling his catalogue in 2016 for $55 million.

What does this mean for artists, for the music industry and for the longevity and legacy of artists for future generations?
What does 'selling your masters' truly mean?

Josh and I weigh in on this topic in this 2 parter!

  • Todd #4pick : Foster the People - 'Torches'
Foster the People make Todd's #10Albums list with their debut 2011 release 'Torches'.

This album had the Uber-catchy 'Helena Beat' and the controversial 'Pumped Up Kicks'. We discuss the subject matter of the latter, as well as why FtP songs are so catchy!! ..did you know the singer, Mark Foster, used to write radio and commercial jingles??

Torches received generally favorable reviews from critics and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. The record peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200 in the US and number one on the ARIA Albums Chart in Australia. It has been certified platinum in Australia and the US, Philippines, and Canada.

  • Matt #hm : Neil Young - 'Zuma'
This album was in exclusive/heavy rotation for me this past January and February...I had a huge life choice to make and this LP was my choice to lean on and help me keep grounded.
Close to a flawless album, it has a great variance in soft/loud and long/short songs.
I have always loved Neil when he plays with Crazy Horse!!
1975's Zuma follows 1974's 'On the Beach' and 1975's 'Tonight's the Night'.

    Great stuff!!

  • Josh #10pick : Nick Cave - 'Skeleton Tree'
**SORRY FOR THE POOR AUDIO OF THE FIRST TIME THIS EPI WAS POSTED...HERE IS THE INTENDED VERSION :

Well here we are : Josh is officially our 4th person to complete the #10Albums list!!

He is clearly torn with WHICH Nick Cave album to pick...we bring up Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds "alias" Grinderman (which is an amazing album in its own right).

But..in classic #10Albums form Josh sticks to the album that means most to him - there is the complete package for his choice : attending a live concert that supported the album; the album also helped Josh through the grief of his dog (Sinopa) passing away after 14 years of friendship.

    Thanks for contributing Josh!

  • Josh #8pick : Beck - 'Sea Change'
Beck's 2002 'Sea Change' shows a much more venerable, straight-forward version of Beck - making this one of his most accessible records he's ever done.

The album is full of beautiful, uplifting sadness - this is a "breakup album" if there ever was one. Beck also resisted the usage of heavy sampling of his previous albums for live instrumentation.

Josh had this album in heavy rotation during a very transformational time in his life : a move across the world from Canada to New Zealand.
