On June 29, 2014, Kathy and Alvin Liknes organized an estate sale as they prepared to move to Edmonton for their retirement. Their daughter, Jennifer, and her two youngest sons joined them to assist with the sale. After a day of selling belongings, the family enjoyed dinner together and watched a movie. Jennifer's second youngest son, Nathan O'Brien, asked to stay the night at his grandparents' house. Jennifer agreed and decided that she would also stay the night with her one-year-old son. However, in the early hours of the night, Jennifer decided to take her restless baby back home. The next morning, when Jennifer attempted to reach her parents, there was no answer...this wasn't like them. She rushed to their home, went inside and was faced with a bloody horror scene...but where were her parents and her son?
