100 Words Or Less: The Podcast

Episode 317 - Coffee, lifer status and solitude. All of these things I discuss with today’s guest, Mike Hill from the band Tombs, Anodyne and the Everything Went Black podcast. Mike had always lingered in my life in music and he has led a very interesting life dedicating himself to his craft in the arts. His unrelenting work ethic and focus I always admired so he was a perfect guest to have on the show! Dig in! Want a better night sleep? Try a Casper for 100 days and your life will change. METALCORE! This episode was an incredibly fun romp through the beautiful pastures of 90’s and 2000’s metal core but not your “typical” bands that you may think of. I had my friend Josh Robbins from the band Late Bloomer on the show to discuss 8 records that need your attention. Find your new favorite record in this list and enjoy! RAY Torn Apart “Nothing Is Permanent” Focal Point “Suffering of the Masses” Excessive Force “In Your Blood” Curl Up and Die “Unfortunately We Are Not Robots” JOSH Burnt By the Sun “Perfect is the Enemy of the Good” Premonitions of War “Left in Kowloon” A Perfect Murder “Cease to Suffer” Martyr AD “On Earth As It Is in Hell” Mack Weldon is the most comfortable clothing I’ve worn, period. Episode 315 - If you like technical math rock (like I do) this week will be your jam! I have Yvette Young from Covet on the show. If you haven’t heard of her band, that’s totally fine as they JUST released their debut EP on Triple Crown Records (and it’s really good). She’s an incredibly compelling guest and we discuss tons of stuff like competition, building communities and the word “hella” in the Northern California eco-system. In all seriousness, we discuss some pretty important things and I’d love for you to come listen. Mack Weldon is the most comfortable clothing I’ve worn, period. Get $20 off by using the code WORDS. Episode 314 - Please welcome my new friend, Matt Coplon to the show today. He’s the vocalist from “screamo” (the original description) heroes Reversal of Man and a professional BMX rider. I have wanted him on the show for quite some time and was excited that we finally made it happen. We talk about BMX riding (and if it is still considered lame by skate culture), poetry and unsustainable touring. It’s a glorious chat and you must listen! Episode 313 - HAPPY 4th of July! Talk about a dude who’s played in some great bands, my friend Neeraj Kane joins us today on the pod. He’s played in The Hope Conspiracy, Suicide File, Hesitation Wounds and much more. We talk in depth about his life in the Chicago suburbs, being politically active and engaged as well as the notion of playing in a “full time” band. Enjoy! FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER. I am happy to welcome my old friend, Jason Gleason on the show. He sang on the incredible FSF record, “How To Start A Fire” and was able to convince him to come on the show. The reason I say convince is that Jason hasn’t had the best experiences with press, but fortunately this was a walk in the park. We discuss his upbringing in Minneapolis, his time in Further Seems Forever and public vs private life. I really dug this chat so, DIG IN! Episode 311 - Film and music. The two have been passions of mine and the guest this week for quite some time and I was excited to talk about it with the director, Michael Grodner. He most recently finished his first feature length film called The Icarus Line Must Die which is an incredible piece of work combining the LA punk scene and a film noir look at life in a band. He also directed many music videos that you have probably seen from bands like Planes Mistaken For Stars, Brazil and more. It’s a fascinating discussion of creating art in 2018 and beyond. Episode 310 -NEW BAND YOU MUST LISTEN TO ALERT! Dan Butler, the vocalist/guitarist of post-hardcore/rock band Lume jumps on the line to talk about a ton of interesting topics like how slow growth has helped the band last longer, the tragedy that has molded this new LP and of all things, Sugar Ray (!?). I love this band and you should jump on board now. Sound of Vinyl is the best record store you haven’t visited yet. Sign up for their text service and get $5 off your first record.
