That the gentle pity that spares them, lifts them and carries them. This is our God.-

Overview: UTOPIAN visions never succeed. oCommunism ends with 40 million dead. Closer to home, the o pursuit of happiness seems on its way out.o Isaiah 60 portrays a utopian world. Still the promise-keeping God says, oIn its time, I will hasten it.o But not yet. It can only be built by the One who ushers in the oyear of the Lordos favor- and the day of vengeance of our God.o v.2 MESSIAH SPEAKS vv.1-7 The LORD God is Sovereign, Savior and Judge. The Spirit rests upon the speaker. He is anointed -Christ-ed-, he is sent. Three streams flow through Isaiah o divine King Isaiah 9-6, divine Messenger of peace Isaiah 40, and the Suffering Servant Isaiah 52-53. They come together in vv.1-3. We are blessed to live in the year of the Lordos favor, begun by a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes. At the end, he will be wrapped in Godos glory. -Matthew 24-30- oToday there is a stay of execution for humanity.o In the Year of Jubilee, debtors who have nothing are free. We have nothing with which to repay our debt to God. MEEKNESS can be defined as being oHAPPY FOR OTHERS TO THINK OF ME THE WAY I CONFESS TO GOD THAT I REALLY AM. I SAY I AM A SINNER. I MAY NOT WANT YOU TO CALL ME A SINNER, BUT IF I AM MEEK, I DONoT MIND.o As we become ooaks of righteousnesso, it is all of God. Then we will all be priests serving under the Great High Priest, who brings us into the presence of God now and forever. But we donot want it yet- we want the day of his favor to last as long as possible. HOW CAN GOD BE JUST AND FORGIVE ME, UNDESERVING OF FORGIVENESS. In Christ, the recompense for our sins becomes a reward in vv.8-9. The controversy over vv.10-11 is worth exploring.

Overview: Jesus holds the office of prophet. Is he using oprophetic perfect -past- tense when he says- I have accomplished the worko- GOD CREATES THINGS TO SHOW HIS GLORY- The Universe shows his power. The pillar of cloud and fire show Godos presence with his people. The coming Messiah is linked to both the Spirit and Godos glory. WE HAVE SEEN HIS GLORY- His eternal Glory. He was conscious of where he came from. His internal Glory shared with the Trinity, especially by his Divine Names. His earthly Glory as he comes into the world, sent by the Father. There will be a man in heaven. JESUS IS THE FINAL TEMPLE- At the Transfiguration, a created brilliance of Godos internal glory breaks through earthly flesh. Worship now mean coming to him. So it will be for all eternity. JESUS IS INDWELT BY THE SPIRIT- In text v.1 Spirit rests on Jesus in his fullness. The Spirit helps him endure the suffering of body and the wrath of the Father on his soul. HIS oEARNEDo GLORY- -Be careful with this word-- He earns a new title, oSon of God in Powero. Theologians speak of his oactiveo and opassiveo obedience. He put himself in a position where he must obey the law he himself gave. He fulfilled all righteousness by his baptism. Who can ascended to heavenly Zion- None of us- only the King of Glory. oPassiveo is submission to what was done to him, though he put himself in harmos way. He learned obedience. So he can sympathize with us when we cry to him. GODoS GLORIOUS ATTRIBUTES WERE DISPLAYED ON THE CROSS- His justice, grace and love are known more fully because of the cross. With glory oearnedo by his blood, he returns to Glory as God-Man.--Other Verses- Romans 1-20- Exodus 13-21-22- Isaiah 4-3-5
