💭 How do you create consciously inclusive leaders in the workplace?

Dr. Steve Yacovelli refers to himself as the “Gay Leadership Dude”. He has almost 30 years of cumulative experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion which focuses on developing leadership talent for the LGBTQ+ community, and is the author of a critically acclaimed and award-winning book entitled, “Pride Leadership:  Strategies for the LGBTQ+ Leader to be the King or Queen of their Jungle.”

In this episode, Steve shares how celebrations for underrepresented groups bring awareness, a heightened sense of sensitivity, and a collective societal platform to talk about belonging as an important human need. This is a good opportunity for workplaces to create safe spaces so that conversations happen beyond just the monthly celebrations.

He also shares the three areas companies can focus on to create consciously inclusive leaders:

1. Think In - uncovering your unconscious biases
2. Speak Up - tactfully addressing exclusivity and not engaging in silent collusion; and
3. Act Out - making sure your actions match your values and beliefs by speaking up within your spheres of influence
