Wendy Cocke, Author of the #1 bestselling book, “Making Flex Work: Defining Success on Your Own Terms” is the founder of Engineering Leadership solutions and a working mother of two.
Prior to starting her business, Wendy spent over 20 years as an engineer in Fortune 500 companies leading global teams. When her oldest child, who is now in middle school, was just an infant, Wendy struggled to find balance. She felt like she was failing at home and at work, so she took matters into her own hands. After 11 months, she was able to convince her company to let her go part time, something that had never been done at the leadership level before. Wendy was told that her career would “stall,” that she was “walking away from everything she had built,” and that “she would never get promoted again,” but she didn’t believe them! She knew there had to be a way to find the balance she and her family desperately needed. Today, through lived experience and intentional language, Wendy’s children understand that work is something people do to provide for the lifestyle they enjoy, and they work together as a family to seamlessly transition between work and play.
