On episode 168 I am delighted to be joined by former international and professional footballer Julie-Ann Russell.
A talented all around athlete she recently retired from football at club and international level, however has refused to sit still and has returned to play basketball and Gaelic football with Moycullen (plus running a marathon and probably a Hyrox down the line).
Julie-Ann returned to the national team a year on from having her daughter Rosie reuniting with her former coach Eileen Gleeson, grabbing national attention with her goals vs England & France.
On top of all of what she has achieved in sport she has built a successful corporate career with Microsoft including a stint in Australia while also playing football at a professional level.
We discuss balancing a career in sport, identity as an athlete, becoming a mother and returning to play sport, perspective and awareness as a footballer, the ingredients for success on and off the pitch, and so much more.
This is an honest and insightful account of what it takes to become an elite athlete for players, coaches and parents.
A legend on and off the pitch, I loved this chat with Julie-Ann. It’s easy to see why she has found so much success. Here are some of her key ingredients to success;
