On this episode of The Sideline Live Podcast, Orla sits down with renowned Irish athletics coach Jeremy Lyons for an in-depth conversation on the art and science of coaching.
From developing young talent at grassroots level to preparing athletes for the biggest stage in sport; the Olympic Games.
Jeremy has been a key figure in Irish track and field for over two decades, bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience, and calm leadership to his athletes. In 2009 he founded the Dublin sprint group in Santry and coached 3 athletes to the olympic games. As part of the coaching team behind Sophie Becker and the Irish women’s 4x400m relay squad, Jeremy played a central role in preparing her for the stunning run to the Olympic final — a historic moment for Irish athletics.
Jeremy stepped away from high performance coaching to focus on grassroots and in this episode explains why. We also discuss improving support for coaches and his in depth planning for his athletes. A big thanks for Jeremy for his time.
