Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “It is supposed to be the case…”.

You can add「～はずです」to a sentence ending in the short form to describe what you believe is true or likely, without conclusive evidence.

My friend works for an IT company, so he should be familiar with computers. 友達はITの会社に勤めているから、パソコンに詳しいはずです。

Manami studied abroad, so she must speak English. まなみさんは留学していたから、英語が話せるはずです。

This ramen shop is popular, so it must be good.

The package was supposed to arrive yesterday, but it didn't. 昨日荷物が届くはずでしたが、届きませんでした。

I was supposed to finish work at 8:00, but I didn't. ８時に仕事が終わるはずでしたが、終わりませんでした。

I was supposed to go to Okinawa today but had to cancel due to a typhoon. 今日沖縄に行くはずでしたが、台風でキャンセルになりました。

I was supposed to play golf today but had to cancel due to heavy rain. 今日ゴルフするはずでしたが、大雨でキャンセルになりました。
