The Danish Boy

William Wordsworth

Between two sister moorland (荒野) rills (小溪)

There is a spot that seems to lie

Sacred (圣洁的) to flowerets (小花) of the hills,

And sacred to the sky.

And in this smooth and open dell (小山谷)

There is a tempest-stricken (被暴风雨侵袭的) tree;

A corner-stone by lightning (闪电) cut (劈断),

The last stone of a lonely hut (小屋);

And in this dell you see

A thing no storm can e'er (=ever) destroy,

The shadow of a Danish Boy.

一棵树被风暴摧残;

那是孤独小屋最后的石板;

II

In clouds above, the lark (云雀) is heard,

But drops (停驻) not here to earth for rest;

Within this lonesome nook (角落) the bird

Did never build her nest.

No beast (野兽), no bird hath here his home;

Bees, wafted (飘荡) on the breezy (有微风的) air,

Pass high above those fragrant (芳香的) bells (花)

To other flowers:--to other dells

Their burthens (重量) do they bear;

The Danish Boy walks here alone:

The lovely dell is all his own.

却无意降落此地歇息休闲;

飞向远处其它花朵,开在别的山谷上;

III

A Spirit of noon-day is he;

Yet seems a form of flesh and blood;

Nor piping (吹笛的) shepherd shall he be,

Nor herd-boy (放牧的男孩) of the wood.

A regal (华丽的) vest of fur (皮毛) he wears,

In colour like a raven's (乌鸦的) wing;

It fears not rain, nor wind, nor dew;

But in the storm 'tis (=it is) fresh and blue

As budding (发芽的) pines (松树) in spring;

His helmet (头盔) has a vernal (春天的) grace (恩惠),

Fresh as the bloom (绽放) upon his face.

他犹如正午的精灵游荡;

然而血肉将他躯体构建;

身穿一件华丽皮制马甲;

耐得住刮风,落雨和夜露;

犹如松树萌芽在春天;

IV

A harp (竖琴) is from his shoulder slung (悬挂);

Resting the harp upon his knee (膝盖),

To words of a forgotten tongue

He suits its melody (旋律).

Of flocks (羊群) upon the neighbouring hill

He is the darling and the joy;

And often, when no cause appears,

The mountain-ponies (小马) prick (竖起) their ears,

--They hear the Danish Boy,

While in the dell he sings alone

Beside the tree and corner-stone.

取下斜挎肩上的竖琴;

安放于双膝上;

视他为宠儿,欢乐的源泉;

There sits he; in his face you spy

No trace of a ferocious (凶狠的) air,

Nor ever was a cloudless sky

So steady or so fair.

The lovely Danish Boy is blest

And happy in his flowery cove

From bloody deeds (行为) his thoughts are far;

And yet he warbles (柔和地唱) songs of war,

That seem like songs of love,

For calm and gentle is his mien (神态);

Like a dead Boy he is serene.

战时歌曲轻柔吟唱;

他仪态平静温婉;
