By 1979, Roy Norris and Lawrence Bittaker had both been released from the prison where they met and had reconnected in the outside world. These men shared a deep bond rooted in many similarities, such as their shared interest of making jewelry in prison, their childhood experiences, and their evil sexual desires to rape and kill young women. Upon reconnecting, Roy and Lawrence bought a van to facilitate a plan to abduct and rape women to fulfill their sexual desires, and eventually the pair progressed in their evil ways and became known as an evil duo that did unspeakable things.
