So many people have the desire to make a career change. However, for some it feels to risky to pursue:
In today's episode I want to dig into why and how you can mitigate the risks related to changing career.
Avoid Taking A Paycut - Moving roles or switching industries does not necessarily need to lead to a pay cut. In fact for many making that move is the thing that leads to a 5-figure salary increase.
It all comes down to positioning and how well you are able to position your expertise and the value that you are able to bring to the organisation.
Having The Right Skillset - Whilst you may not know everything you need to know in terms of executing in a new role, you do have the ability to figure it out. Think about someone who gets promoted to the C-Suite. When they get promoted to that position for the first time, they have never done it before. They are not getting promoted because of ther abilitity to do that senior role. They are getting promoted because of their demonstrated potential. When you look back at what you've achieved in your career, you can demonstrate potential.
Feel Comfortable In A New Environment - You can outgrow your current environment and if you feel an inclination to move on, follow your intuition. You were new in this role at some point and you figured it out. You showed up repeatedly until that newness disappeared and this felt like home.
If you choose to stay where you are, the real risk is that you'll stagnate and miss the opportunity to reach those impact goals that you have.
Career change doesn't have do be risky. Take a strategic approach so that you are able to minimise the perceived risk and make the transitioning into a meaningful and impactful role, and secure a salary increase in the process.
We are opening enrolment for The Career Change Maker Program on January 14th! This cohort is going be like none other with some of the adjustments and refinements we are making to the curriculum. I am looking forward to helping more female proessionals take ownership of their careers, find more meaning and get paid better. I hope one of those people is you.
