The current spiritual state of America can be described in one word: malaise. Fewer people are attending church, and the COVID pandemic seemed to simply expose rather than cause an antipathy toward the things of God. Though there are a number of complex societal developments impacting the church, what if the cause and, therefore, the solution to this apathy was was something simple (though not easy)? In sports, during a scoring drought or in a high-pressure situation, our coach always told us the same thing. Get back to the fundamentals. So, what if the church refocused its efforts on–I don’t know–the Great Commission and the task of making disciples that make disciples. Here is a sermon on why this is important now and how it directly affects Christian citizenship.
