Douglas Broderick worked for WFP in Eritrea, former Yugoslavia, Armenia, DPRK, China, and Bangladesh. He was Country Director in Armenia, China, DPRK and Bangladesh. His WFP temporary duty assignments included Djibouti for the Somalia crisis; Rwanda for the post genocide in 1994 and the Philippines. He was seconded to UNDP and served as UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Cambodia and Indonesia.
Before WFP, he worked for 9 years for Catholic Relief Services in the Middle East, Asia, and Baltimore. He served in the UN as a referendum observer; supported set-up of WFP alumni chapters; worked on UN reform initiatives; consulted on humanitarian reform; created country strategic plans; and advised on emergency interventions.
