Why does a good God allows bad things to happen to good people? Why is there so much suffering and evil in the world? This problem of pain, suffering, and evil is an historic and persistent challenge to the church’s witness (including its public witness), and it is often felt as much as it asked. Stated differently, this is a deeply emotional and personal objection to faith much more than it is a rational or intellectual one. For these reasons, I am grateful for Dr. Mark Eckel and this thoughtful and deeply personal response to this difficult question.
Dr. Mark Eckel is President of The Comenius Institute and a professor at a public university, hosts a weekly radio program with diverse groups of guests, and interprets culture from a Christian perspective.
