In the midst of cultural confusion and controversy surrounding sex, sexuality, and gender, Dr. Christopher Yuan is a key resource for church leaders and parents as they navigate conversations and discipleship on these topics. In his books Out of a Far Country and Holy Sexuality and the Gospel, Dr. Yuan detailed his dramatic conversion from an agnostic gay man who put his identity in his sexuality to a Bible professor and now international speaker who puts his identity in Christ alone. And he just launched the Holy Sexuality Project, a video series designed to assist parents and grandparents as they disciple teens on sex, sexuality, and gender.

In this interview, we discussed his remarkable testimony, Biblical identity and sexuality in contrast to culture’s views on these topics, practical ideas and recommendations for parents and church leaders, and how Biblical views on identity and sexuality should translate into the public square.

Dr. Christopher Yuan taught the Bible at Moody Bible Institute for twelve years and his speaking ministry on faith and sexuality has reached five continents. He speaks at conferences, on college campuses, and in churches. He has co-authored with his mother their memoir, Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son’s Journey to God, A Broken Mother’s Search for Hope (130,000+ copies sold and now in seven languages). He is also the author of Giving a Voice to the Voiceless. Christopher graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 2005 and received a master’s in biblical exegesis in 2007 and a doctorate of ministry in 2014. Dr. Yuan’s newest book, Holy Sexuality and the Gospel: Sex, Desire, and Relationships Shaped by God’s Grand Story, was named 2020 Book of the Year for Social Issues by Outreach Magazine. He has adapted this book into a video series for parents, grandparents, and their teens entitled The Holy Sexuality Project™.
