Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “start to…”

“～始める” follows the verb stem and indicates the beginning of something that takes time.  

For instance, if you started to live in Japan, you can say…「日本に住み始めました。」

My younger sister started taking cooking classes. 妹は料理教室に通い始めました。

I recently started watching Japanese dramas. 最近、日本のドラマを見始めました。

We started climbing Mt. Fuji at 5:00 in the morning. 朝の５時から富士山に登り始めました。

Cherry blossoms began to bloom in April. ４月に桜の花が咲き始めました。

It started snowing.  雪が降り始めました。

I started reading a novel. 小説を読み始めました。

I started studying Japanese last year. 去年、日本語を勉強し始めました。

Everyone started taking pictures. みんな写真を撮り始めました。

The baby started crying. 赤ちゃんが泣き始めました。

I started to have a dog. (I have a dog now.) 犬を飼い始めました。

My friend started working at Toyota. 友達はトヨタで働き始めました。
