Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is asking permission “May I ～？”.

When you visit Japan, sometimes you may need to ask permission before you do something. Even at a friend’s house, it’s very common to ask if it’s OK to use the washroom and so forth.

When you ask permission with 「」てform + もいいですか？」, the answer would be 「どうぞ (Please)」「いいですよ (You may)」「はい、いいですよ (Yes, you may)」「もちろん (Of course)」.

May I see the textbook? 教科書を 見てもいいですか。

May I speak English?  英語を 話してもいいですか。

May I go to a washroom? トイレに 行ってもいいですか。

May I take a picture? 写真を とってもいいですか。

May I come in? 入ってもいいですか。

May I sit down? 座ってもいいですか。

May I turn the TV on? テレビを つけてもいいですか。

May I turn the TV off? テレビを 消してもいいですか。

May I get some rest? 少し 休んでもいいですか。

May I call you later? あとで 電話してもいいですか。

May I smoke? タバコを 吸ってもいいですか

May I bring my friend? 友達を 連れて行ってもいいですか。
