In November 2013, 47-year-old Nelly Alva left Lima, Peru to visit her American boyfriend in the Bahamas. After he departed the country, Nelly stayed for another month. Then, she vanished.

Her friends and family suspect she encountered criminals who attempted to smuggle her into the United States illegally to reunite with her boyfriend.
