For the first time in the book, the Preacher stops telling us what won't work and hands us a command: go eat your bread, drink your wine, wear white, enjoy the person you love, and work with everything you've got. And the reason is the most surprising line in Ecclesiastes - God has already approved it. Then he shows us a poor wise man who did exactly that.

The wicked get buried with honors in the same city where they did the damage, and the sentence against evil doesn't come quickly enough to stop anyone. The Preacher says he knows it will go well with those who fear God — and in the very next breath admits his own eyes show the opposite. He holds both and refuses to drop either. Then he tells us to eat, drink, and be glad while the verdict is still outstanding.

He's watched a righteous man die young, so don't overplay your hand. And nobody on earth does good and never sins, so you were never going to finish anyway. Be good. Just don't build your life on what it's going to get you.
