Dr. Neill Epperson is a nationally recognized psychiatrist and a leading voice in women's mental health across the lifespan. She serves as Professor and the Robert Freedman Endowed Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she also leads as Executive Director of the Helen E. and Arthur Johnson Depression Center. Before joining CU-Anschutz, Dr. Epperson founded and directed the Penn Center for Women's Behavioral Wellness and Penn PROMOTES at the University of Pennsylvania. Her groundbreaking work has advanced our understanding of how hormones, sex, and reproductive status influence brain function and mental health—especially during key life transitions like puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. A prolific researcher with more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Epperson's work has been consistently funded by the NIH for over two decades. She is also a dedicated mentor, educator, and advocate for integrating sex and gender into all aspects of biomedical research.
