The Brisbane region has been hit with some wild weather over the last few days which could have us on track to beat last year's rainfall statistics.

9News weather reporter, Garry Youngberry told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, "We've got storms coming in from the west and southwest but we've also got showers being pushed in as moisture is being fed in off-shore due to on-shore winds so there's quite a lot of instability."

"This is really just the start of it," Youngberry continued.

Queensland is home to some of the world's best beaches and holiday destinations, and now one of our own has been crowned the best snorkeling destination in the world, according Lonely Planet.

Lady Elliot Island, located in the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, stamped out fierce competition from snorkeling destinations in Brazil, Malawi, Egypt, and the Philippines.

The scenes coming out of LA are devastating to watch, they are somewhat reminiscent of the bushfires that ravaged the east coast of Australia five years ago.

It makes you wonder “Is there anything we can do to prevent these fires? Is there anything we can do to stop these fires from getting so out of control?”

Retired QLD fire commander, Graeme Thom told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, "What's happening over there is devastating and it shouldn't be happening, the firefighters are doing an amazing job but they can't cope with something like that, so you have got to cope with it a different way."

A multinational architecture firm aims to steer the debate over Brisbane's stadium plans in a new direction with an ambitious proposal to transform a Bowen Hills industrial site into a lively stadium hub.

But to deliver the vision, Queensland Rail’s Mayne Yard which currently occupies about 21 percent of Bowen Hills would have to be moved out of the inner-city.

The man behind the proposal, Stuart Dow from architecture firm Wilkinson Eyre told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, "There's a fantastic piece of land in inner city Brisbane that at the moment is being utilised for an industrial purpose and in the long-term aspirations of most cities you'd want to turn that into something spectacular for future generations to enjoy."

The powers of modern medicine mean that the spread of diseases like the Bubonic Plague are well and truly in the past but health experts are warning that we should be mindful of antibiotic resistance.

Infectious diseases expert from the University of QLD, Professor Paul Griffin told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, "There's a lot of problems with antibiotic resistance, and if that trend continues some of these germs may become very difficult or even impossible to treat."

Wildfires continue to decimate Los Angeles as tens of thousands have been forced to evacuate.

We’ve been watching apocalyptic scenes across the world as dangerous wildfires rip through LA.

So far the wildfires have killed two people, destroyed 1000 homes, and forced 70,000 residents to evacuate.

Actor, director, and founder of the American Arts Film & Television Academy Jessica Orcsik is an Australian living in LA. Ms. Orcsik told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, "It is thick, thick black smoke. it felt like we were in the middle of a huge storm."

"The devastation is just huge... I've never seen anything like it," Ms. Orcsik continued.
